[edit] Career

Saviola has played for a number of clubs throughout his career and began in his home country of Argentina for River Plate. He enjoyed a 3 spell there and won the 1999 Apertura and 2000 Clausura championships along with 1999 South American Footballer of the Year awards. He moved to Barcelona aged only 19 and was a mainstay at the Nou Camp for 6 years which saw him loaned out to Monaco and Seville before moving to arch rivals Real Madrid. He had a tumultuous time at Madrid with his chances limited due to the Galactico philosophy which meant that more players in his position were brought in rather than the Madrid board putting trust in Saviola. Saviola ended his time at Real Madrid by joining Benfica in a deal worth 5million Euros.
