[edit] Background Information

The Blue Square Premier, formerly the Nationwide Conference, is the lowest tier of professional English football and the top tier of Non-League football. It also has two offshoots, the Blue Square North and South.

Formed in 1979, under the alias of the Alliance Premier League, 6 of the founding teams still play in the Blue Square Premier today. Since then, it has had 4 different names: the Gola League (1984-1986), GM Vauxhall Conference (1986-1998), Nationwide Conference (1998-2007) and Blue Square Premier (2007-?).

1. There are 24 teams in the Blue Square Premier at all times.

2. The first round of matches is in August, and the last is in May.

3. There are 46 games played, each team playing together twice. Once at home, and once away.

4. There are 3 points awarded for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss.

5. At the end of the season, positions are decided in this order- points, goal difference, goals scored.

6. The 4 teams at the bottom of the league in May are relegated.

7. The team who accumulate the most points, or a goal difference record come May, are declared champions and promoted to Coca Cola League Two.

8. You can name 5 subs during match day, with 3 allowed to be used.

9. The teams that finish in 2nd-5th enter a play-off, the winner of the final is also promoted to Coca Cola League Two
