General Information
A huge re-construction of English non-league football saw the creation of the Conference North and South in 2004. Now called The Blue Square North/South, due to sponsorship, these two leagues are on par as the 6th tier of English Football. Winning Promotion from the Blue Square South means entry to the Blue Square Premier, promotion from that league sees entry into Coca Cola League Two . Teams in the Blue Square South are semi - professional and are generally with poor financial status'
League Structure
Altogether there are 22 clubs in the Blue Square South, resulting in 42 fixtures for each team. The winner of the league is automatically promoted to the Blue Square Premier, with places 2nd - 5th playing in the play-offs for promotion. The three bottom teams are relegated into the either the Isthmian League Premier Division or the Northern/Southern League Premier Division, depending on the clubs location.
History
Conference South was introduced in 2004 as part of a major restructuring of English non-League football. The champions are automatically promoted to Conference National. A second promotion place goes to the winners of play-offs involving the teams finishing in second to fifth place. The three bottom clubs are relegated.
